Purpose of Position
The Department of English at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Journalism, effective August 2024. This position is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4 with a course release each semester to advise the school’s paper.
The individual will transform our newly formed minor into a highly prized, cross-disciplinary minor designed to help students succeed within and beyond the university. The ideal candidate will help grow the minor by teaching core courses in journalism and journalistic ethics, working with students across the disciplines, and supervising the editorial staff of the school newspaper, The Captain’s Log.
We seek a candidate with a terminal MA, MFA, or Doctoral degree in journalism or a related field, and/or significant professional experience as a journalist. Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching journalism to undergraduates. Ability to teach first- and second-year writing seminars is desirable. Training in digital media or in the digital humanities is a must. Journalists from a range of backgrounds and media are also encouraged to apply.
