Position Summary

 

The University of New Mexico, Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a certified Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Abdomen and Obstetrics and Gynecology. This faculty will serve as an Assistant Ultrasound Director to teach point of care ultrasound (POCUS) to medical students, residents, fellows and attending physicians under the supervision of ultrasound fellowship trained Emergency Medicine Physicians. Beyond teaching the hands-on application of ultrasound acquisition, this position includes teaching learners image interpretation, both during acquisition and during image review and opportunities to grow administrative responsibilities. Teaching happens in a wide variety of locations throughout the Emergency Department and in non-clinical settings., One of the highlights of this position is there are no direct patient care responsibilities. Given this the hours allow for some weekly remote work and have no night shifts, no weekend shifts, no time spent on call and all UNM observed holidays are off. 

The Department of Emergency Medicine has 86 full-time and part-time attending physicians, and is home to an outstanding Emergency Medicine Residency, EMS Academy and Center for Disaster Medicine. UNM Health System is New Mexico's only Level I Trauma Center, UNM Children’s Hospital, home to the only Burn Center, and the state's first Comprehensive Stroke Center. UNM Health System providers specialize in over 150 areas and receive 900,000 outpatient visits, 22,000 surgical cases and 100,000 emergency room visits each year. Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Have an Associate’s Degree or higher  
  • RDMS certified in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN)
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience working as an ultrasonographer. 
  • Ability to work autonomously and problem solve 
  • Willingness to work with a variety computer software
  • Willingness to work as part of a team-teaching physicians core ultrasound skills ranging from acquisition to image interpretation.

  Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • RDCS certification in one or more of the following: Adult Echocardiography (AE), Pediatric Echocardiography (PE)
  • RVT certification in Vascular Technology (VT)
  • ARDMS certification as Musculoskeletal Sonographer (RMSKS)
  • Experience with Cerner, Smartsheet, Sharepoint, Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Previous experience in teaching physicians
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Personal and professional alignment with the values of the Department and the UNM School of Medicine
