Position Summary

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time faculty position as a Lecturer II or Lecturer III. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the computer engineering area. The expected teaching load for the position is three (3) courses per semester. This load may be reduced by assuming approved administrative duties such as coordinating the department’s educational accreditation activities or other research work.

Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in computer engineering or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment. Exceptional candidates who hold an M.S. degree in computer engineering or a closely related field will also be considered. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the broad computer engineering area including both hardware and software, including strong knowledge in object-oriented programming and procedural-oriented programming, mainly C, C++, and Python, VHDL, microprocessors, Linux, FPGAs, and embedded systems design, along with demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is committed to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education offering BS (ABET accredited), MS and PhD degree programs. A team of 27 full-time faculty, and several research and part-time faculty, support the activities of approximately  300 undergraduate students and  250 graduate students. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Computer Engineering or a closely-related field by the start date of the appointment
  • OR
  • Masters in Science in Computer Engineering or a closely-related field by the start date of the appointment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence
  • Instructional knowledge of software (object-oriented programming and procedural-oriented programming, mainly C, C++, and Python)
  • Instructional knowledge of hardware (VHDL, microprocessors, Linux, FPGAs, and embedded systems design)
  • Experience teaching subject lecture / laboratory courses
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
