The Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning (ZIEL) is a world class experiential learning center with a vision to transform learning, collaboration, and care. Our mission is to impact critical healthcare problems by co-creating simulation-based learning systems and solutions for challenges that face individuals and teams of current and future healthcare providers at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS).

The Learning Design Coordinator works with members of the ZIEL Learning and Design Team in providing logistical and operational support for key aspects of simulation course design, implementation, and impact. This role supports program success of simulation training for students, post graduate trainees, and healthcare providers by leveraging administrative skills in project management, information technology, online instructional design, course promotion and evaluation, and programmatic assistant to the ZIEL Learning and Design Team and simulation faculty.

This person understands the complexities and coordination related to programmatic support, and is highly motivated, self-directed, anticipatory, professional, and capable of managing their workload and prioritizing variable tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to achieve shared goals.

Key Responsibilities:

The Learning and Design Coordinator is a multi-faceted role with varied responsibilities. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Play an integral role in project coordination and administrative tasks by coalescing knowledge and data from disparate sources to maintain alignment amongst all the efforts of the ZIEL Learning and Design Team in moving curriculum and training programs forward. This includes scheduling, preparing for and taking notes in meetings, as well as follow up activities. 
  • Adept in a wide variety of informational, organizational, and project management software and applications. Responsibilities include document management, managing user permissions and content for educational applications, as well as development and administration of online instructional design.
  • Assist with development and preparation of program delivery materials, including but not limited to handouts, instructor guides, cognitive aids, course datasheets, participant rosters, etc.
  • Support program assessment and evaluation through the ongoing development and maintenance of post-event surveys and impact reports to stakeholders.
  • Conduct special projects, such as preparation of client-ready reports and presentations, as assigned.
  • Support daily activities of ZIEL Directors, primarily the Director of Simulation Operations, through activities such drafting communications; maintaining an electronic filing, documentation, and project management system; and coordinating an active calendar of appointments.
  • Collaborate with the ZIEL Director of Simulation Operations to coordinate and plan content for weekly team operational meetings and retreats with the purpose of aligning team strategic priorities with ZIEL culture and organizational mission and vision.
  • Exercise situational awareness, diligence, and attention-to-detail across multiple tasks with impeccable follow-through, accuracy, and punctuality.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and initiates optimization of team workflows. This includes effective application of technology to achieve enhanced team communication and efficiencies.
  • Cross-train for contribution to other unit efforts as assigned by the ZIEL Director of Simulation Operations including but not limited to marketing, database management, front desk support as needed, and simulation scheduling.
  • Work effectively as a team player by looking for ways improve individual performance and growth through reflection and open communication. 
  • Welcome a workplace in which responsibilities evolve according to program need, and approaches challenges with an “all-hands-on-deck” and “can-do” attitude.
  • Stewardship in the identification and appropriate use of available resources.

Required Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 year’s work experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft® Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience as a project manager, program coordinator, office manager, executive assistant, or other similar positions.
  • Work experience within healthcare simulation, education, or administration.
