Job Summary
Sunnyside Apartments (student family and graduate housing) is looking for a responsible individual to perform duties that pertain to landscape maintenance, gardening and operation of equipment necessary to maintain campus grounds.  Occasional on call hours.
Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for the health, care, and appearance of a variety of trees, shrubs, and perennials in a drought tolerant landscape. They are also required to know the common names of trees, shrubs, monocots, and dicots. 
Control weeds with integrated pest management best practices. 
Operate equipment of various types including line trimmers, edgers, blowers, chain saws, hand and power sprayers, light trucks, dump trucks, side by side utility vehicles, power push mowers, ride on mowers, tractors, loaders, limb chippers and related tools and equipment. 
Maintain lawns by completing essential tasks such as: fertilizing, mowing, edging, seeding, sodding, aerating, and other related activities that contribute to good lawn care. 
Prepare for seeding and transplanting by cultivating the soil, watering, weeding, and adding fertilizer and chemicals depending on the nature of the soil and the requirements of the plants. 
Perform snow removal with plow, snow blower and shovel. 
Ensure that all grounds maintenance, including snow removal, within assigned area is accomplished in accordance with university and department policies and procedures.
Ensures that seasonal tasks are completed expediently and efficiently to preserve the beauty of the campus and provide a safe environment for the university community. 
Help train and direct seasonal employees. 
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program as a Master Gardener, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); nine months of progressively more responsible grounds experience; a knowledge of the common names of trees, shrubs, monocots, and dicots; and a valid Utah State Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License required. Demonstrated oral and written communications skills; analytical and trouble shooting skills; and customer services skills also required.
