The Department of Radiology is seeking a Laboratory Technician that will assist with lab tasks and research.  Assist in the lab preparing tissues, running testing, cleaning and ordering supplies Responsible for keeping records in lab notebook. Operates lab computers for data entry. 

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

Scope of Responsibility:

Knows the informal policies, procedures, and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of a specific section, unit, or work area.  Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit.

Carries out duties and responsibilities with supervision.  

Assist in the lab by preparing tissue extracts and blots.  Run spectroscopy measurements. Maintain accurate data records. Monitor inventory levels, orders materials and supply in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Assist with running standard spectroscopy measurements on tissue extracts, and assist with running western blots.

Monitor inventory levels, order materials and supply in accordance with established policies and procedures.  Clean autoclaves tubes.

Communication:

Exchanges routine information in an appropriate manner requiring good oral and written communication skills.

Minimum qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED with some science coursework. Must be detail oriented, keep clear experimental records, have effective organizational skills, and be able to prioritize workload appropriately.  Must be able to perform multiple tasks efficiently and correctly, often operating more than one instrument at a time.  Experience in basic laboratory procedures required.  

Preferred qualifications:

Training Certificate from Technical Institute preferred. Certificate from technical institute or internship experience preferred. Some related work experience preferred in a comparable lab performing relevant techniques, coupled with a survey knowledge of biological sciences, chemistry, or related field. 

Any specific physical requirements for the job:

Must be able to lift 25 lbs., Must be able to sit for long period of time, and must be able to climb at least 4 flights of stairs

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
