Position Description


This position is responsible for serving as the Lab Coordinator for multiple labs in the Systems Biology Department. The role is multi-faceted and requires close collaboration with other members of the Laboratory Operations team. This position reports to the Manager of Research Operations and will perform duties relating to lab safety and lab management in a dynamic research environment. In addition, this position may provide support for our departmental facilities including our aquatics and tissue culture facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures labs adhere to all appropriate safety regulations including - recording and tracking chemical inventories; management of biological and chemical waste; and tracking safety training of lab members.
  • Coordinates lab organization, ordering lab supplies, stocking consumables, and shipping biological materials.
  • Assists lab members in dealing with various needs as they arise.
  • Maintains instruments and schedules certifications.
  • Responsibilities may also include some basic laboratory techniques as well as providing support for departmental aquatics facilities and other core facilities.
  • May perform other duties as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in science or a related discipline.
  • At least 1 year of lab experience (relevant coursework may count toward some, but not all, work experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous laboratory experience with safety implementation preferred.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel) are required.
  • Previous experience with aquatics animals is not required, but is a plus.
  • The successful candidate will be a team player with good communication skills.
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with an upbeat attitude who will look at how the labs function and think creatively about how to implement improvements.
  • They will enjoy contributing to a range of different projects and helping many different people to achieve their goals.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.


Working Conditions

May be required to handle a variety of hazardous materials.


Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. 

Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.

37.5 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Provides on-call support as needed after hours for emergencies in their labs. May need to work periodic holidays or weekends as needed.
