About the Department

The Systems Development & Improvement (SDI) Center in Columbus, Ohio fosters the development, implementation, and evaluation of PK20 education research and demonstration efforts that improve opportunities to learn for children and youth, their families, and the professionals who support them. At the core of many Center activities is a commitment to advocacy on behalf of all children, as well as partnerships - with school districts, with professional associations, with institutions of higher education, with regional providers, with the state - that improve conditions and outcomes for students with disabilities and other marginalized groups of learners (e.g., learners who are economically disadvantaged, learners at risk of school failure for a variety of reasons, etc.).


Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati’s Systems Development & Improvement (UC SDI) Center in Columbus, Ohio is seeking two full-time researchers to conduct mentored research under Drs. Jennifer Ottley and Deborah Telfer. Candidates will have opportunities to contribute to multiple research projects related to the use of evidence-based practices in education and in systems thinking to design and implement practices that build capacity systemwide to scale and sustain research efforts.

 

The position is open to individuals at both the pre- and post-doctoral levels. Funding for the two positions are based upon the availability of external funds. The selected researchers will be eligible for a flexible schedule but must be able to come into the Columbus Office 2-3 days per week.


Essential Functions
  • With support, conduct research in a particular field within a pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research results.
  • Participate in grant writing for external funding.
  • Participate in writing content for professional learning opportunities.
  • Participate in writing professional reports and manuscripts for publication.
  • Engage in scholarship review to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • May teach techniques to others while working as a part of a research team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in education or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in education.
  • Demonstrated research expertise.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Required Education

Master’s degree.


Required Experience

Three years of educational experience or one year of educational research experience.


Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Recently completed doctoral program and seeking additional research and training.
  • Current doctoral student seeking research experience.
