Job Opportunity: Career Advisor and Scientific Skills Coach

The NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) has an immediate need for a full-time Career Advisor and Scientific Skills Coach. There is the potential for long-term employment and the position can begin as soon as possible. The incumbent will be asked to complete the following tasks:

• Provide advice to NIH intramural fellows about MD, MD/PhD, graduate and other health professions applications
• Prepare and hold individual and group mock interview sessions for MD, MD/PhD, graduate and other health professions programs
• Participate in Personal Statement for Medical and Graduate School Preparation sessions and Review
• Participate in postbac MCAT training
• Provide academic guidance to NIH intramural fellows to aid in their successful completion of graduate-level coursework, qualifying exams, PhD defenses, and other academic milestones; suggest study plans; review content; plan and manage practice exam panels; provide academic coaching.
• Work with NIH intramural fellows on the process of writing various forms of scientific content, including, but not limited to, research proposals, dissertations, manuscripts, and abstracts.
• Coach NIH intramural fellows preparing for upcoming scientific presentations, including, but not limited to, group and department meetings, the monthly Postbac Seminar Series, scientific conferences, and dissertation defense presentations.
• Provide educational support for OITE Summer and Scholar Programs Provide advice to NIH intramural fellows about MD, MD/PhD, graduate and other health professions applications
• Assist the NIH Career Symposium for logistics and execution of the event.
• Work on the leadership team for major events in the OITE such as Postbac Poster Day, Graduate Research Symposium, and more.

We are looking for someone with an interest in supporting the educational needs of NIH Trainees, coupled with:

• Ph.D. in a scientific discipline relevant to biomedical research.
• Minimum of one (1) years of related experience.
• Training in teaching and/or mentoring
• Demonstrated ability to deliver scientific presentations and write original research manuscripts.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data.
• Knowledge of the organizational structure, goals, and operations of NIH intramural training programs.
• Experience teaching and coaching young scientists in scientific communication, both oral and written
• Experience creating and delivering educational curricula
• First-hand knowledge of the graduate and/or medical school application process
• Program management or administrative experience, particularly in an academic or government setting.
• Experience in creating training resources for young scientists.
• Familiarity with software used to facilitate training.
• Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
