The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two multi-story residential student dormitories.
The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages an $8.1 million annual budget, 62 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 10,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year. Many KLETC basic training and continuing education programs are conducted in a high risk and high liability environment (firearms, use of force, emergency vehicle operations driver training, defense tactics, and search and seizure).

This position will work in conjunction with Assistant Directors, and is responsible for the development of processes and procedures for the effective operation of the program. They investigate allegations of student and staff misconduct, including sensitive areas such as sexual harassment and discrimination allegations. They serve as subject matter experts in developing curriculum in subject areas depending upon their background.
Job Description
50% Manages programs, projects, functions and/or processes of the basic training program. To accomplish this function, the incumbent works with instructors, support staff, other departments, satellite academies, and law enforcement agencies around the state to coordinate schedules, programs, student issues and curriculum for all basic training programs. Assists with the logistical planning of the basic training function.
15% Under the statutory authority of the Vice Provost/Director of Police Training to promulgate policies and procedures for the effective operation of the campus (including a student code of conduct), the Administrator develops and implements operating policies and procedures related to basic training and affecting 24 staff members, 150 residential students and law enforcement agencies statewide. Uses complex software to generate reports used to evaluate program effectiveness, make modifications to programs and adjust curriculum and standards.
10% Budgetary discretion and responsibility. This position is actively involved in the budget process and is frequently responsible for major capital purchases, including developing specifications, researching vendors and evaluating bids. Responsible for monitoring and approving operational expenses including, staff travel, operating supplies and equipment repairs or replacement.
10% The Administrator leads a team of instructors with responsibility for mentorship and professional growth of the members of the team. Acts as a subject matter expert on curriculum issues in his or her area of expertise related to law enforcement curriculum content, curriculum development, assessments and instructional methodology.
5% Acts on behalf of the Vice Provost/Director of Police Training with regard to immediate concerns of illness, injury, safety or discipline when leadership is out of the office. Exercises substantial independent judgment when addressing these concerns.
5% Interacts regularly with law enforcement administrators statewide, other unit directors and KU administrators. Represents the organization on statewide committees and working groups (which will require driving state-wide).
5% Participates in statewide professional law enforcement associations. Actively involved in various committees and leadership roles of statewide law enforcement associations; Maintains liaison with Chiefs, Sheriffs and officers within the Kansas law enforcement community; Writes articles related to areas of instruction and specialization for law enforcement publications or magazines.
