Job Title: Intermediate Laboratory Science Professional

Job Summary:

This position is for an Intermediate Laboratory Science Professional in the CU Cardiovascular Institute molecular genetics cardiovascular research laboratory. This position has a strong focus on cell culture (in particular human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and primary cardiac cells), preparation of laboratory reagents, tissue sample processing, and assistance with a variety of in vitro and in vivo laboratory experiments, including studies in cell culture and laboratory mice. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide laboratory management (orders, supplies, auditing paperwork, etc.)
  • Maintains various iPSC cells lines.
  • Assists postdocs on animal works.
  • Maintains laboratory records and orders reagents.
  • Growing primary cardiac cell lines.
  • Perform RNA and DNA isolation.
  • Performs PCR/qPCR assays and analyzes data.
  • Assists undergraduates/grad students/postdocs in their research activity.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Manages molecular aspects of our tissue bank.
  • Tissue and other biological sample processing for various omic studies.
  • Cell culturing for ongoing experiments.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular, cellular, or developmental biology, bioengineering, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year professional level research experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in molecular, cellular, or developmental biology, bioengineering, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and good sterile technique.
  • Experience with human iPSC culture and primary cardiac cell cultures.
  • Experience with most basic molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blots, RT-PCR, cloning, immunocytochemistry, and DNA, RNA, and protein purification).
  • Experience with animals, primary cell culture and tissue engineering.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member, with supervision of a principal investigator and current laboratory staff.
  • Self-motivated and desire to be involved in high-impact research.
  • Good management skills in an academic research setting.
  • Good communication skills are required.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $45,801 - $58,259.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
