Description
The Social Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for an open-rank Instructional Professor position in the undergraduate Global Studies program. This is a full-time, career-track teaching position. The initial appointment term will be from two to five years, depending on rank, and renewable with opportunity for promotion within the Instructional Professor track based on performance review and College recommendation. The expected start date is negotiable between March 1 and September 1, 2027.
Global Studies is an interdisciplinary, undergraduate program focused on fostering a critical understanding of global institutions, structures, networks, and flows and preparing students for a wide range of internationally focused careers. The Instructional Professor will teach up to six quarter-length courses each academic year on themes central to the Global Studies curriculum, including the core Global Studies sequence and/or BA thesis seminar, as well as methods or topics courses in the interdisciplinary social sciences. The appointee will also provide administrative support for the undergraduate curriculum, programming, and events and academic advising for Global Studies majors, including linking students to relevant research, fellowship, and internship opportunities.
This base pay range of $75,676–$100,000 is dependent on rank (assistant, associate, or full) for a nine-month academic appointment paid over twelve months. The position includes support for professional development and may also offer a relocation allowance for qualifying expenses. The terms and conditions of this position are described in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Chicago and the Service Employees International Union. Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. from a relevant field in hand by the start of the appointment. We are open to all interdisciplinary scholars from the social sciences but will especially welcome applicants with expertise in global institutions, global history, or science and technology. Skill in teaching archival or digital methods is also a plus, as is specialization in East Asia, Africa, or Latin America.
