Salary: The budgeted salary rate for this position is $145,000 - $170,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
About the University of Illinois Chicago Retzky College of Pharmacy
The UIC Retzky College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is seeking a full-time, motivated professional for the position of Clinical Faculty (Open Rank)/Clinical Pharmacist who will be assigned to UI Health’s Adult Critical Care services.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at the University of Illinois Hospital. The hospital is a 450-bed academic institution located approximately 2 miles west of downtown Chicago. The hospital serves an urban, indigent patient population.
The Retzky College of Pharmacy, with campuses in Chicago and Rockford, is the #1 college of pharmacy in Illinois and #6 in total research grant funding, according to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Duties:
The pharmacists are an integral part of the MICU multidisciplinary team. The MICU is a 19-bed adult patient care unit that provides care to a broad range of critically ill patients. Major disease entities that are routinely treated include multiple organ failure, acute and chronic respiratory failure, sepsis, GI bleeding, diabetic ketoacidosis, and drug overdose. The duties of the Clinical Pharmacist include medication review, medication and dosing recommendations, therapeutic drug monitoring, provision of drug information, patient education, bedside medication preparation, and attending adult cardiopulmonary and rapid response events. The candidate will also be responsible for nurse, physician, and pharmacy staff development programs; coordinating and conducting quality improvement projects; and developing collaborative treatment and research protocols.
The academic responsibilities of the clinical faculty member (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) include the provision of didactic lectures and precepting entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy students, PGY1 residents, and PGY2 residents. Scholarly activities, including presentations and publications, are also expected. Academic rank commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
- PharmD and PGY1 residency experience required.
- PGY2 residency or fellowship in Critical Care, or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent clinical experience as a clinical pharmacist in adult critical care, is required.
- Candidates must present evidence of, or eligibility for, Illinois licensure as a professional pharmacist at the time of employment.
- Highly preferred: strong clinical knowledge base; analytical and problem-solving skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to consistently meet deadlines; demonstrate flexibility and ability to work independently and adapt to a changing work environment; excellent planning, time management, and organizational skills.
