To assist in actualizing our mission, we seek candidates for the position of Senior Instructional Designer. This position’s job responsibilities are as follows:
Instructional Design Supervision and Leadership
  • serve as resource liaison for the CoSW instructional design services
  • give oversight to team of instructional designers
  • assist in managing workflow, set priorities, goals, and objectives for the instructional design team
  • direct team activities to ensure timely completion of online courses
  • in collaboration with the Assistant Dean, prepare a budget plan for instructional design expenses and purchases
  • complete performance evaluations for direct reports
  • collaborate with other instructional designers, internal to and external to the CoSW
  • promote the use of instructional design best practices throughout the CoSW

Project Management
  • assist in managing and implementing the process to create new online courses and programs
  • assist in managing the process to revise existing course content
  • coordinate with internal colleagues and the Assistant Dean to manage projects including setting milestones, creating timelines and tracking results
  • review and make recommendations on unit planning and processes and providing project schedules to unit leadership
  • may facilitate or directly conduct status report meetings with team members to facilitate communication of schedules and project coordination
  • ensure any quality control measures or processes specific to the function are developed, implemented and/or conducted to ensure expectations are met
  • may create materials, outlines, schedules, procedures, and other collateral materials required to effectively manage and execute projects; may be involved with training or knowledge transfer activities to familiarize and prepare relevant parties for fulfilling any role they may have or impact of the project on them
  • partner with other areas and functional groups that may require an understanding of each project

Instructional Design
  • support the Instructional Design Team as they work with Subject Matter Experts regarding the design, development, and delivery of engaging learning experiences
  • lead the instructional design team to produce learning experiences drawing on expertise in a variety of tools including the Learning Management System, Authoring Software, and a variety of educational software tools
  • work with faculty and the instructional design team to support the development of course and module level objectives, assessments, course content and learning activities
  • coordinate the updating and development of assessments, course content and learning activities
  • coordinate the updating and development of resources to support distance learning faculty
  • supervise the improvement of quality assurance processes and advocate for the implementation of processes to ensure accessibility standards are met
  • conduct periodic evaluations of instructional methods and technologies used to design, develop, and deliver online courses

Program Design
  • Provide support, consultation and expertise in the design, development, implementation, and revision of educational programs at the CoSW
  • collaborate with unit leadership to support the process to develop or revise CoSW programs
  • coordinate meetings, activities, and reporting among department staff and faculty to ensure project progress
  • implement, update, and develop reports in coordination with team members
  • assist in managing program projects with a specified timeline while communicating project milestones with the faculty and program coordinator
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
This position requires the use of Articulate and Rise and knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for curriculum development purposes.
