Who we are

The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management (KNSM) is one of the largest academic departments at Texas A&M University.  As one of four departments in the School of Education & Human Development, KNSM is currently home to over 1,468 undergraduate students, 175 master’s students, 57 doctoral students (1700 total), and 87 funded graduate assistants. KNSM is an active member of the American Kinesiology Association  (AKA). The department joins in the efforts of the AKA to promote the discipline of Kinesiology as a field of study and to highlight its applications that affect all through research to enhance people's health. The Instructional Designer III, under general supervision, leads the development and support for the classroom, hybrid and online courses. Leads and manages the development of training for faculty and/or staff in areas of instructional design, instructional technology, andragogy, and online education best practices. Manages projects, faculty training, and leads all instructional technology work in the department. Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of course development or closely related experience. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise and specific experience in management of processes related to using learning management systems to build courses.
  • Knowledge of fair-use and copyright compliance, licenses, certifications, and registrations.
  • Expert knowledge of platforms such as Articulate Rise, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, or Canvas.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and instructional technology research-based practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of Canvas learning management system.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ADA compliance.
  • Experience leading teams.
  • Professional development and/or teaching experience with educational technologies.

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Instructional Design and Development - Provide pedagogical and technical support to faculty to develop, design, and create online instructional content aligned with research based best practices and departmental needs. Leads instructional design and instructional technologies departmental oversight and applies active learning principles in the development process. Work with faculty to design, innovate, and create engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound technologically enhanced on-campus and fully online learning activities that are accessible. Utilize advanced software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Articulate Rise, and the Storyline 360 consortium of tools to create course content. Administers and maintains online development courses/resources.
  • Design Management - Manage course design and development projects, including the auditing of courses for quality according to identified standards. Leads faculty through the design process and makes key recommendations for design. Researches, reviews, and recommends software, multimedia applications, and web- based educational technologies. Collaborates with the instructor, office of Academic Innovation, and various subject matter experts to ensure the project is completed on time and on budget. Promotes and develops research-based practices and critical thinking strategies for increasing student learning and engagement in both technologically enhanced on-campus courses and fully online courses. Performs usability studies and creates reports. Serve as Academic Liaison in the Office of Academic Innovation, ensure KNSM attendance and participation in all trainings, events, and efforts therein.
  • Innovation - Identifies and recommends the use of instructional strategies, technologies, and applications. Researches and reviews emerging instructional design innovations and trends. Tests new instructional technologies and evaluating educational applications. Stays abreast of and proactively supports current research, legislation, and policies related to accessibility, copyright and other issues that impact high education instructional environments. Collaborates with faculty to integrate technology standards into undergraduate teacher preparation courses per accreditation requirements.
  • Training - Develop and lead training experiences for faculty including but not limited to: Holds both small group and large group trainings for faculty on various instructional design and technological needs.  Provides self-help documents, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials to assist instructors with the use of course management tools, instructional design concepts and other technologies. Collaborates with university office Academic Innovation to co-host and co-lead trainings for faculty and may perform other duties as assigned.
