The Office for Academic Innovation is a new initiative within the Office of the Provost, created to centrally support Texas A&M University’s strategic growth in online and hybrid delivery. What we want

The Office for Academic Innovation is seeking an Instructional Designer II (ID II), who will contribute to creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. We are looking for an individual to work fluidly across a cannon of theories, industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends relevant to instructional design in a higher education setting. This position will necessitate the ability to collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts (SMEs), and members of the Office for Academic Innovation team on the design, development, and delivery of digitally-enhanced learning experiences that are accessible, engaging, and align with course and program objectives of academic units across Texas A&M University's Schools and Colleges, Branch Campuses, and Higher Education Center. While the Instructional Designer II, will primarily engage with faculty, the ideal candidate will be adept at facilitating learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner. In this role, the Instructional Designer II, will also work with SMEs to identify their training needs so that the course instructor engages in both the design and delivery of courses. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Two years of experience in instructional design

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply instructional design theories, principles, best practices, and trends to the design and development of digitally-enhanced courses in a higher education setting

  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems and instructional technologies

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely to key stakeholders

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, or other related discipline

  • More than two years of experience in instructional design

  • Experience in supporting accessibility within a contemporary digital learning environment

  • Professional experience using the Canvas learning management system to support teaching and learning

  • Experience delivering training, both in-person and online, to individuals and groups

  • Proven experience creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content

  • Experience designing, developing, implementing, and revising online courses and course materials in a higher education environment

  • Experience interacting with and supporting faculty and administration

  • Experience writing, proofreading, and editing instructional materials

  • Experience creating engaging content that is accessible and aligns with quality standards

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to assist with multiple projects while working independently and in a team environment

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices

  • Ability to create content using instructional technologies that scaffold the digital learning environment

Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Design  - Provides pedagogical and instructional design support to faculty to develop, design, and create digitally-enhanced content applying instructional design theories, industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends in the development process. Designs and creates instructional content and materials in collaboration with subject matter experts (SME) and/or consults with and supports a faculty-led instructional design process. Coordinates production of course deliverables with course instructor, instructional design team, and multimedia team. Assists in monitoring and adjusting content based on feedback from faculty and SME's. Researches and integrates emerging academic technology and instructional design innovations and trends into the course production process. Stays current in instructional design software and strategies that enhances face to face, hybrid, and online courses. 

  • Quality Assurance - Ensures course content is accessible and meets established standards for quality assurance. Maintains knowledge of accessibility best practices. Leads course reviews to ensure course alignment and standards are met. Contributes to the evaluation framework by which Texas A&M University online courses will be evaluated. Identifies and recommends the use of instructional strategies, technologies, and applications to improve quality of online courses. Provides continuous support on quality improvement initiatives.

  • Project Assistance - Coordinates and develops course design and development projects. Performs basic project management tasks for hybrid and online courses. Utilizes project management software to ensure efficient workflows and progress reports. Regularly reports on project status within the project management framework established by the unit. Performs other duties as assigned.
