Instructional Designer

The Instructional Designer is funded through a Federal Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant. The Title III Instructional Designer will work under the supervision of the Director of Distance Education.  This position will be located on the Pocahontas campus. The annual salary for this position will be $60,000.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the Title III Instructional Designer are to ensure the outlined deliverables in the Building the Workforce: Implementing a Career Services Program and Durable Skills Curriculum are met within the timeframe provided for each of the 5 years. This is a temporary position for up to the length of the grant.

The Title III Instructional Designer will:

  • Attend all meetings with the Durable Skills Advisory Council
  • Meet weekly with the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness
  • Collaborate with state partners and Curriculum Champions to design curriculum
  • Create a learning map for the planning of online content for each institutional outcome
  • Develop engaging learning activities and compelling online course content including but not limited to resources, activities, rich media, and assessments
  • Film and/or take pictures, or coordinate the effort, to create instructional videos, tutorials, infographics, and/or test questions as needed
  • Develop new curriculum and assessments and incorporate institutional outcomes into preexisting curriculum
  • Create a curriculum map indicating where each institutional outcome is taught
  • Incorporate durable skills and institutional outcomes into new and existing curriculum
  • Investigate simulation and other technologies for classroom/online use
  • Develop training and work with Curriculum Champions to train faculty on new curriculum and advising
  • Align curriculum with other advanced durable skills or institutional outcomes where training was already offered
  • Conduct a minimum of 4 trainings in year 4 with 100% of faculty to inform about implementation of the new curriculum
  • Adjust institutional outcomes and durable skills curriculum and modules as needed
  • Keep current with and apply instructional design theories, methods, and practices
  • Attend meetings and serve on assigned committees
  • Abide by all college policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education in instructional design or related field
  • Familiar with Moodle or another LMS
  • Technologically savvy with demonstrated experience using Adobe Creative Cloud/Suite, Articulate eLearning tools, Camtasia, or other related technology tools
  • Understanding of outcome assessment and continuous quality improvement
  • Knowledge of research-based learning models, best practices, and instructional design strategies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree is preferred with a major in instructional design or a related field
  • Five years of experience applying instructional design in an educational setting or related area
  • Experience developing learning activities for varied modalities
  • Significant experience with LMS
  • Certifications from OLC in Instructional Design
  • Experience with filming, editing, and producing plus photography knowledge
