Definition of Class

This position manages the daily operations of the First-Year Experience Unit within the Center for Student Success and First-Year Experience and assists with the planning and execution of strategies designed to strengthen retention and first-year experience initiatives for students. The incumbent develops, plans, and implements programs and courses; creates and supports new and current initiatives; and provides guidance and supervision to staff.


Examples of Work Performed
  • Manages the daily operations of the First-Year Experience Unit within the Center.
  • Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to the retention and first-year experience initiatives for students.
  • Provides support to the Director in the development and implementation of a comprehensive support program for students.
  • Assists in the production of professional development materials, resources, and activities related to student success.
  • Develops, plans, and implements programs and courses.
  • Implements new initiatives to support first year students.
  • Acts as liaison between students, faculty, and professional schools.
  • Coordinates the First-Year Experience course, recruits and trains instructors, and provides an assessment of the course.
  • Assists with new student recruitment, orientation, and retention.
  • Teaches one First-Year Experience course per semester , as needed.
  • Seeks out new partnerships and researches other programs in existence to support the initiatives.
  • Represents the center on various committees, boards, and associations.
  • Attends local, state, and national workshops, and conferences.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

  • Creates and supports new and current initiatives.
  • Teaches one First-Year Experience course, as needed.

  • Minimum Education/Experience

    Education:

    Master Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

    AND

    Experience:

    Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.
