Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Office of Digital Learning (ODL) team helps to innovate instruction at Smith through a variety of initiatives and strategic plans. Our team engages faculty through immersive workshops, along with more intimate faculty coaching to incorporate student feedback and peer evaluations. Additionally, our instructional designers pull together both on-campus and external resources to promote rigorous, engaging learning experiences for students. Our team encourages academic innovation and collaboration, creating opportunities for students to go beyond the classroom and apply their knowledge to today’s most complex and relevant business challenges.
Working with the ODL team includes supporting the ODL instructional designers in completing content reviews, proofreading, and editing in Canvas. Working on the quality assurance reviews for designed courses to ensure that courses meet the design, quality and accessibility standards. This work culminates in significant contributions to videos, readings, and activities for students to interact with in our various programs. There are opportunities for you to find creative solutions that meet professional and instructional requirements.
This is a position that will allow you to work remotely. You must be detail oriented, organized and a self-starter with the motivation to work independently. Due to the flow of work you must be able to communicate effectively with management, adhere to a schedule and meet deadlines.
Potential work assignments include:
  • Implement Digital Accessibility Guidelines
  • Assess digital assets such as Canvas sites, Excel Documents, Word Documents, videos, and PDFs for conformance against accessibility guidelines.
  • Proofread content.
  • Digital asset support includes script writing, storyboarding, review, light editing.
  • Research – content and educational best practices.
  • Edit content to conform to accessibility standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Must be University of Maryland College Park undergraduate student.

  • Ability to write with clarity and concision in a fast-paced work environment under competing deadlines.

  • Technical writing background
  • Some familiarity with HTML and CSS.

This position is not for those seeking a GA assistantship. Candidate must be a University of Maryland student. This position is 10 hours per week.
