Job Summary: The Instructional Design Manager Serves as the Academic Technology and Distance Education Manager in the School of Nursing (SON), within Texas A&M and at distant sites. Manages instructional design support to faculty and students.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree

Required Experience:

  • Five years of related experience in technologically-oriented training, support, and consultation, including two years of instructional design, curriculum development and/or online teaching experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of instructional design, multimedia, and course design principles and practices
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning and Literacy, Higher Education, or related field

Preferred Experience:

  • Six or more years of related experience in technologically-oriented training, support, and consultation, including three years of instructional design, curriculum development and/or online teaching experience.
  • More than two years of experience in K-12 or higher education to include compliance, accessibility, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, and faculty development
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting the needs of university faculty and students from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in a supervisory role managing others
  • Experience with the following: Project management, cloud-based team collaboration and management, learning technologies in K-12 and higher education settings, learning consulting, pedagogical best practices for all learners, customizing content, client and customer-service, end-user experience design
  • Experience in K-12 or higher education settings across face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online delivery environments
  • Experience using help ticket systems with a focus on customer support

Job Responsibilities: 

Academic Support

  • Plans and directs support for academic technology for School of Nursing . Supervises instructional design staff and student workers.
  • Manages instructional design projects and project queue.
  • Monitors feedback from faculty and students regarding instructional design processes and course design user satisfaction.
  • Serves as departmental liaison with the Office of Academic Innovations  at Texas A&M University.
  • Communicates with other university support services to coordinate support for faculty teaching online, students, and potential students to allow for a user-friendly, effective, and seamless online education experience.
  • Manages academic technology assistance to faculty teaching face-to-face as needed, for the use of online teaching and learning methods.
  • Manages technology and pedagogical assistance for faculty teaching distance education.
  • Administers  new student orientation materials relating to technology requirements and orients new students on academic technology.
  • Implements technological assistance for incoming students, in coordination with TAMU IT. 
  • Responds directly to online students' concerns and takes appropriate action.
  • Manage requests for Canvas Learning Management Systems (Texas A&M academic Canvas and Texas A&M continuing education Canvas) including template design, course migrations, troubleshooting, and quality assurance.
  • Responds to Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) and accessibility exception requests for the school.

Online Courses

  • Manage online course quality assessment and standards in design.
  • Leads School of Nursing  committee for online education in establishing online course standards and approval process.
  • Works with faculty to orient and assist with the development of appropriately unified course format and packaging to provide students with a user-friendly, effective, and seamless online education experience.
  • Assists faculty teaching online in obtaining and using academic technology. 
  • Keeps abreast of new developments and research in education and shares new information with faculty as appropriate.

Program Support

  • Collaborate with program track coordinators.
  • Facilitate and strategize policies with program track coordinators on curricular, technological, and pedagogical requirements of courses.
  • Communicates with program track coordinators regarding any issues and events concerning the online programs.
  • Attend program track coordinator and curriculum committee meetings as needed. 

Other Support

  • Coordinates with TAMU Health Division of IT on requirements for maintaining Bryan and Round Rock loaner laptop supplies including patches, updates, and checkout policies.
  • Disseminate announcements and technology news as needed.
  • Compile reports from various academic technology systems as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
