Job Summary

As the Associate Instructional Specialist you will work under immediate supervision while following established procedures and working with other departmental instructional specialists to support the implementation, delivery, and provisioning of assigned undergraduate computer science courses for CS, DS, and AI majors, including lecture, lab, and project experiences. 

 

As the Instructional Specialist you will work under general supervision, but you will work independently and in collaboration with other instructional specialists and curriculum development specialists to plan, implement and coordinate assigned undergraduate computer science courses for CS, DS, and AI majors, including lecture, lab, and project experiences.

 

This is a dual level posting where the hiring manager will determine the level according to the candidate's education and experience.

 


What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:
As the Associate Instructional Specialist, you will need the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or other computing discipline preferred, or other technical or education major
  • No experience required

 

As the Instructional Specialist you will need the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or other computing discipline, or other technical or education major required
  • Minimum of Two (2) years of relevant experience

 

Skills Needed:

As the Associate Instructional Specialist, you will need the following:

  • Understanding of the organization and operation of higher education courses, and the function of teaching assistants 

Preferred:

  • Understanding of software development, computer instructional laboratories, and pedagogical concepts 
  • Ability to:
    • develop presentations used in training teaching assistants
    • use of content management system to maintain a course website
  • Knowledge of the operation of course learning management systems  

 

As the Instructional Specialist you will need the following:

  • General knowledge of computer Science curricula 
  • Understanding of the organization and operation of higher education courses
  • Have an understanding of the function of teaching assistants
  • Ability to:
    • effectively communicate with faculty and teaching assistants
    • work independently, and with large groups

 

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of CS instructional laboratories and general knowledge of computer lab equipment  
  • Ability to:
    • teach and monitor progress of teaching assistants 
    • maintain a course website
  • Knowledge of the operation of course learning management systems
