The Veterinary Medical Center at The Ohio State University is searching for a Veterinary Care Technician for small animal surgery to assist team clinicians and care-giving colleagues with the reception, treatment, and monitoring of all patients within the Small Animal Surgery unit. Additionally the successful candidates will oversee and instruct professional veterinary students in preparation of animals and equipment for medical procedures and delivery of care. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: organizes, directs, and provides helpful and collegial assistance to professional students, clinicians, residents, and technical students during receiving appointment hours; coordinates with reception; assists with patient exams; prepares and labels specimens; assists with receiving surgical emergencies, client communication with phone calls and release instructions; prepares animals and equipment for surgery (clips, shaves and scrubs body area for operation); sets up appropriate equipment and instruments for each case; prepares & labels specimens obtained in surgery; assists surgeons during surgical procedures using aseptic techniques; cleans and disinfects operating rooms, equipment and related areas; demonstrates and observes veterinary students in operating room procedures; and other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will be expected to work 40 hours a week on first shift with required on-call hours and holidays based on a team rotation. Evening and weekend hours will be eligible for shift differential. Successful candidate must be a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of Ohio and complete a background check.
Hiring Range - $23.65 - $29.57
