Chief Objective of Position
The Institutional Research Analyst will serve as a contributor to the University’s culture of data informed decision-making by performing activities related to data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting. The analyst will generate, compile and present information in response to regulatory, institutional, and ad hoc reporting; collaborate with colleagues University-wide with respect to the collection, analysis, and reporting of institutional data; and, working closely with staff members within the office, to make information more accessible and available to the university community.
Work Tasks
Working closely with the Director for Institutional Research, the Institutional Research Analyst will:
  • Maintain responsibility for submission of institutional, instructional, and student data supporting routine reporting, non-routine requests for information, state and federally mandated reporting, external surveys, as well as supporting compliance with other governing and accrediting agencies. The submission process includes collection and/or extraction, compilation, analysis, submission and verification of the data.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and enhancement of a university data hub.
  • Provide reports and data visualizations to support institutional decision making and to track progress with respect to various institutional performance measures.
  • Provide quantitative and qualitative analyses on institutional data as needed for planning, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Consolidate data from various university sources to provide comprehensive analyses.
  • Summarize and present data and results clearly and accurately in verbal and written communications and numerical and graphical forms.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from across the University in the collection, analysis, and reporting of institutional data.
  • Work to enhance University data storage, retrieval, and accessibility.
  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of institutional research datasets.
  • Contribute to matters of data quality and integrity, ensuring that institutional data is consistent, accurate, and complete.
  • Review and validate data for the data warehouse.
  • Identify, collect and preserve University-wide facts and figures for archiving.
  • Develops a customer service approach to more effectively promote the “students first” initiative ensuring that all constituents are served in a fast, friendly, efficient and effective manner.
  • Maintains a positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) related to position
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient knowledge in computer technologies, to include the use of word-processing, spreadsheet, reporting, and/or statistical software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Required Education
Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree and experience that equates to a advanced degree.
Additional Consideration - Education
Bachelor’s degree in an analytical or data management field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Required
  • Experience in the use of statistical and/or reporting software.
Additional Consideration - Experience
  • Experience working in/with Institutional Research or in a college/university setting.
  • Functional experience in admission, financial aid, student records, enrollment management, or related area at the college/university level.
  • Experience in data extraction or report writing from a large-scale relational database such as Banner.
  • Experience in the use of SAS, SPSS; TOAD, SQL, Crystal Reports; Ellucian Banner; MS Office Suite.
  • Experience working with sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
Salary Information Starting at $60,000, to commensurate with education and experience.
