Job Description Summary:
We are seeking a qualified applicant board eligible in internal medicine or medicine/pediatrics to perform as a supervisor in an academic traditional medicine role This would include spending time supervising medical students and residents on inpatient hospital ward services. The applicant would also spend time fulfilling the role of developing an outpatient clinic in an expanding academic functional medicine practice. While certification in functional medicine is preferred, the applicant can train and certify through Institute for Functional Medicine while working alongside the current team members.
Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
  • M.D. or D.O. degree or foreign degree equivalent to an M.D.

  • Board certified or eligible for certification in internal medicine or internal medicine plus pediatrics

  • Hold or be eligible for licensure in Kansas


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching and supervising medical students and resident physicians 

  • Experience in functional, general internal, and/or hospitalist medicine

  • Institute for Functional Medicine certification or in process


Job Duties Outlined:

Hospitalist 

  • Provide patient care on the inpatient services at our community hospitals.

  • Act as supervising attending physician, according to a schedule developed in consultation with Directors of Internal Medicine Education (DIMEs) and the Department Chair, accepting responsibilities for the care of patients admitted to the University’s teaching service and available to discuss consults/referrals with the resident physicians assigned to teaching service.

  • Assist in the coordination and development of outpatient-based service for departing inpatients.

  • Monitor and evaluate patient care activities of medical students and resident physicians, providing timely verbal and written feedback to medical students and resident physicians.

  • Communicate frequently and directly, verbally and in writing, with the residency program director and student clerkship director regarding any resident physician or medical student performance issues or program policy issues.

  • Regularly attend and participate in residency/department conferences as required by the residency program director or department chair.


Functional Medicine

  • Provide chronic disease care from a Functional Medicine perspective by interviewing, assessing, and treating clinical patients, meeting their medical needs, and improving their quality of life

  • Consult with the Medical Director and other professionals on staff as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues

  • Educate patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection by providing materials and resources to patients and families

  • Oversee advanced practice staff as assigned, as well as nursing clinical staff; assign appropriate aspects of care to non-physician staff

  • Represent the Functional Medicine Clinic in the local and broader community, participating in educational and other medically oriented programs for the public, physicians, and patients
