Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Honors Carolina is a four-year academic program geared toward the top 10% of undergraduates at UNC, and is comprised of a remarkable collection of courses, study abroad programs, special events, career development, and other learning opportunities. It is the University’s way of investing in truly exceptional undergraduate students by providing academic and non-academic challenges and opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom. Approximately 2100 students are
currently members of Honors Carolina. These students enjoy priority enrollment in more than 200 honors courses each year. These are small classes, taught by award-winning professors who encourage classroom discussion and hands-on research. Outside of the classroom, members of Honors Carolina attend a diverse roster of co-curricular programs designed to help students explore their interests; prepare for life after graduation; and connect with students, faculty, alumni, and leaders around the globe. The Honors Carolina ‘Go Anywhere’ initiative is a comprehensive plan to elevate the program’s reputation among industry leaders, position it as a destination of choice for top recruiters, and prepare students to seize opportunities before them through intensive advising and coaching.
Position Summary
The Global Education & Fellowships Advisor is the primary point of contact for all UNC Chapel Hill students who consider studying abroad or applying for a global fellowship through Honors Carolina. In 2023-2024, the Global Education & Fellowships Advisor met individually with approximately 250 students who completed an Honors Carolina study abroad program or fellowship – and countless others who expressed an interest in learning more about available opportunities and the application process.
The Global Education & Fellowships Advisor guides and assists students at every step of the global education process: identifying a study abroad program or fellowship, completing an application, understanding and applying for funding, selecting appropriate courses for their time abroad, pursuing academic credit for their overseas study, and reflecting on the experience when they return to Chapel Hill. The Global Education & Fellowships Advisor is student-centered and contributes to diversity and excellence of the academic community at UNC. The position reports to the Director of Global
Education and Fellowships in Honors Carolina.
The Global Education & Fellowships Advisor also serves as primary communications officer for all Honors Carolina global experiences, marketing opportunities and recruiting students through classroom visits, student organization visits, campuswide events, Instagram features, and weekly e-blasts. The position also assists the Honors Carolina admissions team by meeting individually and in group settings with prospective students and their families during campus visits and off-campus events.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Advising-related experience with a post-secondary student population is required. Cross-cultural experience, which may include studying or working abroad, is also required.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
