Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This is a Contingent I (CI) Groundskeeper position for the summer landscaping season to provide seasonal support for grounds care/maintenance and landscaping necessary to maintain the grounds of the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in regard to grounds care and maintenance and use of equipment.
  • Ability to operate and perform minor maintenance to assigned hand and power tools and equipment;
  • Ability to perform work in, on, around, under and over trees, shrubs, and buildings and facilities;
  • Ability to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

  • Ability to become a Registered Pesticide Applicator is desired.
  • Possession of a valid Maryland Class C license (or equivalent) with fewer than 6 points is desired.

Physical Demands
Must be able to work in adverse weather and temperature extremes and be free from debilitating pollen allergies and the like. The employee must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and on occasion up to 100 pounds; stand and walk continuously; lift, stoop, and/or bend for extended periods of time; wear and work with the use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.). The shift hours are from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Position is Essential and is subject to 24 hour day/7 day week span of operation.
