Job Description Summary

The Graphic Designer II, under general supervision of the Communications Manager, serves in a supporting role to promote and enhance the public image and identity of the Texas A&M University College of Nursing and its education, research and service mission. This position supports various publication, electronic media and web development projects for marketing and communications needs of the Texas A&M College of Nursing, including but not limited to designing and editing graphics/photos for use in print, multimedia, web and other digital/online purposes. Performs complex graphic design and consultation work.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Two years of related experience in graphic design, web design, print and electronic media, marketing or related design field.

Preferred Experience:

  • Four years of related experience in graphic design.
  • Design experience in creating print publications such as magazines, annual reports, print ad and brochures.
  • One or more years of experience in photography.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office 365 (word processing, spreadsheet and database applications).
  • Knowledge of photo and design software applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Ability multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualizes and executes marketing and communications collateral for print and electronic mediums utilizing Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365 and other software.
  • Designs brochures, signs, newsletters, presentation templates and materials, and other print media.
  • Designs project specifications, obtains pricing, prepares files and oversees production. Requests and assists with press checks as necessary.
  • Designs effective and accessible graphic interfaces for web sites, web pages and applications as needed to support responsive web design in collaboration with web developers/designers
  • Creates motion graphics for use on web sites and multi-media presentations. May produce high quality photographs for social media, public relations and news stories as needed.
  • Prepares and presents, as needed, branding and design concepts for review, collaboration and approval.
  • Develops brand assets that support the goals and mission of the College of Nursing, Texas A&M University and Texas A&M Health Science Center.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders as needed from concept to creation to customer support.
  • Serves as a technical resource in the area of graphic and publication design software, hardware and techniques.
  • Maintains documentation for each project including approvals, comments, drafts and artwork.
  • Proactively manages the archival of all graphic projects, including maintaining proper file management protocol and consistent naming convention.
  • Manages presentation repository.
  • Crafts guidelines that educate users on best practices. Reconstructs presentations to conform to visual and brand standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
