Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Can you lure all eyes to your designs? Create beauty and innovation using an existingbrand guide? Develop illustrative social media, flyers, digital displays and a range of other materials, using tools like Canva? Can you meet – or beat! – deadlines? If you can answer “yes” to the above, the School of Public Health Office of Communications may have the graduate assistantship for you!
We’re seeking a spectacular graphic designer and/or multimedia journalist who is a graduate student with coursework and experience in multimedia journalism, graphic design, or a related field to develop a wide range of materials about the School, including promoting news, events, and activities like Maryland Day. The candidate will also lead regular tasks like newsletter production, managing the team’s shared email, tracking loans of marketing materials, and other duties as assigned.

  • This position is only open to University of Maryland, College Park graduate students.


Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Experience in graphic design, multimedia journalism, or a related field, including coursework in the topic.
  • Working understanding of design platforms like Canva and/or InDesign and Photoshop. Video production and photography expertise is preferred, though not required.
  • Adept at translating written or oral assignments into visual media (i.e., charts, photos, short animation, graphics)
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and oral/written communication skills are essential, as well as a strong commitment to accurate, high-quality storytelling. Must be detail-oriented, disciplined, trustworthy, and have excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work independently or on a team, using time- and project management skills to balance many competing deadlines and finish all assignments by their deadlines.
  • Be creative and come with ideas!

This position is only open to University of Maryland, College Park graduate students.
The role would include tuition remission and is a .5 FTE (~20 work hours a week) during
the 2024-2025 academic year. Several in-person hours are required every week.
