GIS Specialist PRA - 32439
Research Faculty

Description

University of Colorado Denver

Department: Geography & Environmental Sciences

Job Title:  Geographic Information Specialist (Professional Research Assistant)

Position #: 00696252 – Requisition #: 32439

Job Summary:

The position will collect, collate, and ground-truth legacy geospatial data from disparate datasets linked to paleontological and archeological sites. 80% effort.

In addition, the position will provide technical support for GIS and GPS (GNSS) activities to parks in the NPS Intermountain Region. 20% effort.

Results of this paleontological and archeological data work will provide the basis for solid, scientific foundations for park project compliance; predictive modelling of resource sensitive areas in parks threatened by falling water or park's adaptive activities; assurances to our tribal partners that NPS recognizes emergent sites as at risk and that we are doing something about the issue; and a proactive management approach to emergent sensitive resources and their unique needs.  The capture and refinement of these datasets will demonstrate resource needs for the NPS that drive river and dam operations throughout the Colorado River drainage—this will institutionalize their protection and management in future years.
