Facilities Development and Management seeks a GIS Specialist to support decision making and engagement and will involve working on a variety of projects.  Responsibilities include geospatial data development, analysis, customer support, and map/application creation.

Salary Range

$57,500 - $62,500 per year, commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.


Essential Duties

  • Performs moderate to complex GIS analytical and geoprocessing functions, including input, editing, manipulation, management, analysis and output of spatial and tabular data sets.
  • Assists in management of GIS data or the maintenance of data quality assurance and quality control standards.
  • Develops GIS data utilizing a variety of techniques including COGO, digitizing, and field data collection.
  • Creates appropriate documentation of designed or integrated systems; assists with development of training and help documents; provide training and technical support as needed.
  • Helps to designs and develop GIS application procedures and programs as required; tests procedures and programs to assure that desired results are achieved; and makes necessary changes to correct deficiencies.
  • Meets and communicates effectively with internal users, vendors, and consultants in determining most appropriate approach in providing GIS functionality.
  • Operates GIS computer equipment, such as workstations, printers, plotters, wide format scanners, and GPS units as required.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday – 8:00am – 5:00pm


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, geography, Computer Science, or a related field AND two (2) years of demonstrated competency as evidenced by professional work experience with geospatial software applications, data, and metadata; OR Any combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master's degree in Geographic Information Systems or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in versioned editing techniques within GIS platforms, including creating, reconciling, and posting versions while ensuring data integrity and collaboration.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Esri utility network data model for managing complex utility networks, performing network tracing, and integrating GIS functionalities for asset management and decision-making.
  • Proven expertise in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) technology for field data collection and mapping.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, preferably Python or JavaScript, for GIS process automation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL and relational databases for spatial data analysis.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%). 
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds (15%). 
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

This position requires that you must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.  Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
