Truman College's Child Development Laboratory School (CDLS) is in need of a part-time food service aide worker to assist staff in the delivery of meals to children in accordance with the guidelines of the USDA, Child Care Food Program, Head Start Performance Standards and DCFS Licensing Standards. 

 

The CDLS services children breakfast, lunch and a snack. Meal service is posted on the classroom schedule and classrooms provide monthly food experiences. The menus are regulated by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and meets all USDA guidelines. Parents have the opportunity to provide feedback to menus through the quarterly parent menu meetings. Even if children do not like particular foods, we do ask that the children try new food items. We make food accommodations for medical, religious, and cultural reasons. If the child has allergies to particular foods or is on a special diet, we will need signed documentation from a doctor or a medical authority stating his/her special dietary needs. We do not permit food brought from home except for special dietary restrictions.  
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and distributes catered food to classrooms in accordance with the USDA, Child and Adult Care Food Program Meal Patterns.
  • Serves food at appropriate temperatures, portioning/distributing food into appropriate serving bowls/containers, and placing on tables for family style serving.
  • Monitors the dietary needs of the children and remains knowledgeable of food allergies.
  • Washes and sanitizes food carts, serving bowls and utensils, and dishes after meals.
  • provides clean up and storage of kitchen/serving areas to maintain sanitary conditions and a clean and safe environment.
  • Assists the Director in maintaining adequate inventory and proper storage of paper supplies and snack food items.
  • Disposes of used paper goods and food related items properly with special attention to health and sanitation standards.
  • Participates in staff meeting and assigned and required training sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • An Illinois approved Food Handler's Certificate
  • Must obtain Illinois/City of Chicago Food Service Manager Certificate within 90 days of hire
  • Must be able to pass IL DCFS Background Check and medical certification for food service worker.
  • One year of food services experience preferred.
  • Must be able to start to work: Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
