Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
In consultation with FM Executive Director of Operations and Maintenance, provides overall leadership in the care and support of existing Academic and Research Facilities and new facility construction to include maintenance, landscaping, custodial services, as well as other FM services. Works collaboratively with external and internal constituencies to support the highest level of care and customer service. Participates in overseeing utility consumption and efficient operation of all building systems. Ensures facility support of teaching and laboratory spaces and works with all departments to provide an outstanding learning and teaching environment. Supports classroom, laboratory, offices and common areas. Establishes close working relationship with other campus groups including building security, classroom technology, ESSR and Dining Services.
As FM liaison for specific facilities at College Park, provides overall leadership and coordination of any and all FM activities that impact the facilities. Acts as a backup to other facility managers and their assigned facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Architecture, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Note: Vocational higher education, college course accreditation in a facility management-related field, Certification as a Certified Facility Manager, and/or additional facility management experience may be substituted for the required education on a one year of vocational education and/or experience for one year of required education.

Experience: 
  • With a Bachelor’s degree, seven (7) years of experience in operations and facility maintenance in a multi-facility complex; without a Bachelor’s degree, ten (10) years of experience. Additionally, at least three (3) years of experience must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Broad knowledge of facilities operation and maintenance to include building systems (airside/waterside, steam/condensate, lighting/ power, plumbing) strong familiarity with both automated/pneumatic controls, building envelope and architectural finishes.
  • Leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Ability to use a computer for basic word processing, electronic communication (e-mail), computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and automated management information systems. 
  • Ability to evaluate and manage financial and budgetary resources and project operational financial needs. 
  • Ability to evaluate and determine operational and renewal needs for complicated facilities.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with building occupants, staff, students and facilities management personnel. 
  •  Ability to provide high levels of customer service and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferences:
  • Graduate degree in management or related field.
  • Desired disciplines include: Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management and Facilities Management.
  • Experience in the role of facility manager strongly desired, in addition to experience in a higher education environment.
Additional Certifications:
Incumbent must possess a driver’s license, as duties may require the incumbent to travel to and from meetings and sites both on and off campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid MD Class C driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six (6) points.

The hiring salary range is: $107,250-$128,000.

Physical Demands
Work is performed in both an office environment and in the field. Incumbent must be able to work in a hazardous environment such as confined spaces, working from heights and other adverse conditions resulting from construction and/or renovation activities. Incumbent is considered an Essential Employee as it relates to ensuring facility is properly maintained and must be available for major campus events/activities.
