Position Summary and Duties
Position Summary:
The Financial Aid Specialist guides students and families through the financial aid process, assessing needs, determining eligibility, and administering aid packages. Responsibilities include providing clear information on available resources, ensuring compliance with regulations, and staying informed on industry updates. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to promoting equitable access to education are essential for success in this role. This is a temporary position through August 2026.
Job Duties Include:
• Provide expert financial aid counseling to students and their families, addressing complex financial situations and advising on available aid options.
• Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions to assist students in understanding and navigating the financial aid process.
• Review and analyze financial aid applications to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
• Participate in the verification process, ensuring the timely collection and assessment of required documentation.
• Utilize knowledge of financial aid regulations and guidelines to determine eligibility and calculate financial aid awards.
• Package financial aid offers for eligible students.
• Exercise professional judgment to assess special circumstances and adjust financial aid packages as appropriate.
• Collaborate with other university departments to address unique student situations and provide effective solutions.
• Conduct financial aid workshops and information sessions.
• Stay informed about changes in federal and state financial aid regulations and ensure the university’s compliance with these regulations.
• Implement and enforce university policies related to financial aid.
• Assist with development and maintenance of financial aid policy and procedures manual.
• Contribute to the professional development of the team through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a post-secondary financial aid office.
- In-depth knowledge of federal financial aid programs and regulations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with student information system software, preferably Colleague or Workday.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software and applications especially Excel, TEAMS, Word, and Outlook.
