Departmental Objective
The mission of the Office of Financial Aid is to increase opportunities for student access to and success in higher education by helping students and their families seek, obtain, and make the best use of all financial resources.
Through informational resources and guidance, we support incoming students in making a successful transition to college. Furthermore, we contribute to the University’s retention efforts by providing on-going assistance to our continuing students to help make their academic endeavors attainable.
While complying with Federal, State, and Institutional regulations and guidelines, we ensure equity and consistency in the delivery of funds to students.
Purpose of the Position
This position serves as the front line point of contact for the Office of Financial Aid, providing support to students and their families by helping them navigate the financial aid process. In addition, this position serves as a liaison to various internal departments such as Admission, Registrars and Student Accounts for financial aid related questions/concerns.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively assist, guide, and counsel students and parents on the financial aid process and award program requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, parents, faculty, staff, and other outside agencies and organizations
  • Strong computer skills for data entry tasks, scanning, and business correspondence with a keen ability for attention to detail
  • Ability to navigate integrated computer system and software programs
  • Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments
  • Ability to listen to customers (e.g. students, staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests
  • Ability to deal with difficult customers
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to set one’s own priorities
  • Ability to multi-task and work under stress during peak periods
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:
  • Customer service experience within an academic setting.
  • Experience in data processing and office practices.
  • Experience providing administrative support.
  • Experience working with confidential records.
Additional Consideration(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
