Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Francis lab is seeking a full-time research assistant. We are an auditory neuroscience lab located at the University of Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. The Francis lab studies the neural basis of hearing in the auditory cortex of mice. Our goal is to clarify how brain function relates to perception, cognition, and behavior.
Job responsibilities will include tasks such as:
1) Mouse colony maintenance 
2) Surgeries to allow imaging of brain activity in the mouse 
3) Mouse behavioral testing
4) Administrative duties for the lab
Opportunities to participate in other roles may emerge over time. The initial term of the position is 12 months and has the possibility for extension.
The ideal candidate will have received an undergraduate degree in biology, psychology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related field, and will have some familiarity with aspects of the scientific research described above.

Education:
• B.A./B.S. or equivalent degree
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Basic computer skills including email, word processing, and spreadsheets
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
Other:
• Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds
Preferences:
• Lab animal handling experience
• Familiarity with hands-on tool use (soldering, drilling, etc.)
