Position Summary/Description:

The Graduate School's Executive Director of Communications will work with school leadership to design and implement a digital-forward marketing and communication plan that details strategies and priorities in alignment with The Graduate School's strategic plan. The Executive Director leads the communications architecture for the School, including but not limited to, its owned and earned media strategies; brand strategy; strategic communications; thought leadership; and development efforts. This position is responsible for increasing awareness about The Graduate School and communicating its values to myriad audiences, including to prospective students, media, the campus community, donors, and others, in a concerted effort to support The Graduate School's mission, vision, and strategic goals. This position is responsible for working in collaboration with a variety of units on campus to build goodwill and relationships in order to enhance the visibility of The Graduate School and its work.

Education and Experience:

-At least 3-5 years' experience working in a higher education setting.
-Graduate degree in communications or communications-related discipline.
-Demonstrated ability to effectively design and implement communications strategies and goals in a higher education or non-profit setting.
-Proven editorial skills including story development, copyediting, fact checking, and proofreading.
-Awareness of evolving best practices specific to higher education communications.
-Ability to engage and partner with leadership, faculty, staff, student, and other stakeholders.
-Experience managing internal communications and advising staff on internal communications best practices.
-Diverse technical skillset related to print and digital communication and production.
-Professional experience using social media as part of an institutional communications strategy to reach and engage with target audiences.
-Demonstrated understanding of best practices of graphic design, photography, and video production.
-Understanding of digital accessibility and commitment to digital accessibility best practices.
-Strong leadership skills, ability to work autonomously, and to seek support and direction as appropriate.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- High level of independent decision-making.
