The Office of the Commandant (OOC) serves and supports departments within the Corps of Cadets that are critically engaged in all aspects of student development and the delivery of key services and support. OOC departments work to create environments that help students develop, learn, and enhance their experience at Texas A&M by providing leadership opportunities, experiential education, and connections beyond the classroom.

The Executive Assistant provides direct support to the Commandant and his Executive Team. The responsibilities include preparing reports, making plans, arranging travel, organizing meetings, and calendar scheduling. Tasks should be completed using independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. The person will maintain high-level interactions with the campus community and assist with highly confidential and critical academic and/or administrative matters.

What you need to know

Salary: Commensurate based on hire's experience.

Position Details: Employee will supervise (2 to 3) student workers. Some nights and weekends required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three years of related experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Experience:

  • Military customs and courtesies

  • Corps of Cadets knowledge

Responsibilities:

  • Direct Support - Provides advanced professional support to the Commandant and the Corps of Cadets. Schedules day-to-day activities while maintaining long term calendar. Prepares travel arrangements and itineraries and may approve and process travel reimbursements. Coordinates and monitors action items and assignments made by the Commandant. Assists with highly confidential and critical academic and/or administrative matters. Exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. Plans and coordinates logistical and administrative support for events, meetings or other special functions and provides on-site support. Work on multiple assignments simultaneously with accuracy and ability to meet deadlines. 

  • Correspondence and Representative - Compiles reports, maintains records and other documents, and coordinates special events. Evaluates documents submitted for administrator’s signature. Provides support for long-range planning and scheduling activities. Provides expert advice to Management. Plans and prepares reports, manuals, and publications. Acts as administrator’s representative in dealing with third parties.

  • Office Manager - Formulates, interprets, reviews, and communicates administrative policies, procedures, standards, and methods. Maintains records. Other duties as assigned.

  • Fiscal Tracking and Reporting - Maintains and monitors budgets and has fiscal records management responsibilities. Searches for solutions, compiles, and applies information as directed. Analyzes requirements for projects or initiatives.
