The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in one or more departments and schools in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs (GCUA)(P0176659), in the area of Ethnic and Equity Studies with an emphasis on individual resilience . This hire is part of a university wide cluster-hire initiative. 

The GCUA consists of the Department of Communication Studies, the Department of Criminal Justice, the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, the School of Public Policy and Leadership, and the School of Social Work. The ideal candidate will have a background in one or more of these areas.

Profile of Greenspun College of Urban Affairs

The ideal candidate will have a background in one or more of these areas.   

ROLE of the POSITION 

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant/tenured Associate position, to begin Fall 2022.   

Preference for this position will be given to applicants who specialize in resilience as it relates to Ethnic and Equity Studies. 

The successful candidate is expected to integrate their area of expertise into the major initiatives in the GCUA, and the university, focused on individual and community resilience.  For example, creating and reporting on social equity for underprivileged and disadvantaged populations, addressing challenges facing foster youth and homeless individuals, facilitating workforce development to create successful life pathways for disadvantaged individuals, developing effective reentry and diversionary program to reduce incarceration rates, and providing trauma-informed care to vulnerable populations.  These initiatives are designed to develop policy recommendations and potential solutions to a wide range of social issues.  In addition, faculty in the college work in the area of translational research, strategic storytelling, and communication approaches to facilitate equity and inclusion and support underrepresented individuals.  The person hired for the position will be able to draw upon this expertise, and their own, as well as utilize advanced media technology housed in the college, to disseminate effective, equitable and unique policy-based solutions for the community.  The GCUA has many well-established partnerships with public and private agencies, as well as government entities at the city, county, and state level, and this position affords the opportunity to work with those partners to create engagement around social equity and inclusion, and support individual and community resilience initiatives. 

The position will be housed in one or more of the schools and departments in the GGUA.  However, the ideal candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary work that bridges these areas, and will work with other individuals hired by the university in the cluster area of Ethnic and Equity Studies.   

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, developing and maintaining an active program of scholarly research, including pursuing grant funding, engaging with the community, and participating in appropriate levels of service within the department, college, university, and profession.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

This position requires a Ph.D. in the social or behavioral sciences from a regionally accredited college or university.  A record of teaching experience and some evidence of teaching effectiveness, community engagement and scholarly publications is preferred, as well as the ability to demonstrate potential for external funding. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.  

SALARY RANGE 

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
