Description

Job Description: English Language School Program Ambassador and Student Assistant

The English Language School at the Middlebury Institute, currently under the direction of Executive & Custom Programs on campus at MIIS, is seeking Graduate Assistants/Student Ambassadors for the 2024 academic year.

In this role, you will serve as an ambassador, primarily focused on coordinating events and managing social media, showcasing the Institute and the English Language program to prospective and admitted students. It is essential that candidates be available on campus from March through mid-August.

Responsibilities:

 

●      Event Coordination and Social Media Management:

●      Oversee and coordinate program events, including the Welcome Reception, field trips, and activities as needed.

●      Provide program-specific tours to new students (e.g., campus tour, essentials of Monterey tour)

●      Host webinars, Hangouts, and other virtual events for prospective and admitted students.

●      Create engaging and informative social media content for community and external platforms.

 

●      Communication and Outreach:

●      Respond promptly to inquiries from prospective students via phone, email, Zoom, or in-person, providing detailed information about the Institute and the program.

●      Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to redirect questions to the appropriate contacts and provide feedback on student interactions.

 

●      Administrative Tasks:

●      Utilize Google Suite & Microsoft Teams for lead processing, data entry, and effective prospect management.

●      Assist in creating and organizing student arrival materials (e.g., schedules, student handbooks, goody bags)

 

●      Community Engagement:

●      Cultivate positive relationships within the program, fostering connections with fellow students, faculty, and relevant departments.


●      Foster contacts and connections with important community members for activities (local historians, tour guides, etc.).

●      Serve as a resource and support for incoming students.

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

●      Detail-Oriented and Organized:

●      Exhibit a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills.

●      Communication Skills:

●      Strong written and oral communication skills; comfort with public speaking is a plus.

●      Ability to engage students of diverse backgrounds.

●      Independence and Initiative:

●      Self-starter capable of working independently and identifying tasks in the absence of clear communication with staff.

●      Advocacy:

●      Enthusiastic advocate for both your program and the Middlebury Institute.

●      Preferred Skills:

●      Proficiency in computer and technology tools (e.g., Zoom, Outlook).

●      Experience with social media engagement.

●      Previous customer service experience.

Essential Functions:



Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus.

Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Student are not eligible to work remotely from International locations.




Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International Students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
