Job Summary:

Performs administrative duties to support providers, staff, services, and unit programs. May serve as the primary contact or customer service representative and subject matter expert. Tracks, prioritizes, organizes, and completes multiple ongoing clinical, research or academic projects. Requires Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) knowledge or training.
Under the supervision of the unit supervisor of the STI Unit, this position is responsible for coordination and management of the surveillance for the disease intervention specialists (DIS) for the Southeastern Region of Wisconsin. The position responsibilities include planning, implementation, development, organization, evaluation, and maintenance of statewide system to assist state and local health departments that monitor reactive test results from laboratories and providers who are statutorily required to report cases to the Department of Health Services. This position assigns cases to the DIS in the four regions who conducts epidemiological interviews and subsequent investigation of reported diseases and infections. This position has lead responsibilities that include consultation and technical assistance in regards to diseases and infections to statewide inter-departmental committees and correctional settings. The effect of this position is to prevent and control diseases and infections in Wisconsin, especially in certain high morbidity areas and populations.
Additional duties:
- Provide surveillance for disease intervention activities to ensure the timely and accurate reporting and case management to the state and local health departments per CDC guidelines for the Southeastern Region of Wisconsin.
- Receive and evaluate disease and infection reports from state and local health departments to determine cases needed for disease intervention based on the DIS prioritization chart and capacity for follow-up.
- Assign cases of disease and infections to DIS located in the southeastern region of Wisconsin.
- Provide technical assistance to local health departments in the reporting and disease intervention by providers and laboratories.
- Develop and maintain an electronic tracking system that will monitor reporting of diseases and infections by providers and laboratories to local health departments.
- Identify non-typical reporting patterns in STD surveillance in order to query local health agencies on reporting errors or potential outbreak in STD.
- Evaluate disease and infection surveillance and disease intervention activities by local and state health department officials. Provide technical assistance as needed.
- Assist with surveillance activities as needed in an outbreak situation in Wisconsin including areas outside of the Southeastern region.
- Assist the STI Unit Supervisor and other staff in high morbidity areas with overall grant requirements, program management, reporting and record keeping especially in regards to disease intervention activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

  • 5% Performs administrative tasks including telephone customer service, word processing, transcribing, filing, and calendaring
  • 20% Acts as the primary liaison for providers or programs and refers stakeholders to providers, agencies, patients, and staff
  • 60% Assists in coordinating the complex daily activities of providers or program(s) by entering information into databases, maintaining files and materials, and preparing reports
  • 10% Serves as the primary contact and subject matter expert for specified program policies and procedures
  • 5% Coordinates with senior management to define program goals and fiscal objectives

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one year experience in disease intervention or related activities.
- Experience working with communicable diseases such as COVID-19, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, tuberculosis and/or viral hepatitis.
- Experience interacting with laboratories and/or health care providers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in disease intervention of a communicable disease such as COVID-19, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, TB and/or viral hepatitis.
- Experience in eliciting medical information from medical professionals including laboratories and other health care providers.
- Experience in assigning work to other health care professionals.
- Familiarity of working in an incident command structure during a disease outbreak situation.

Work Schedule:

Schedules for 1st shift positions are primarily 8 hour shifts, Monday through Friday, set between the hours of 7:30am - 4:30pm. Some flexibility may be available for different workdays, shift lengths, and/or start times. Schedule will be determined upon hire.

Additional Information:

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
Hire will be subject to criminal background check requirements.
A period of evaluation will be required.

Currently this position will be located at the Keenan Health Center in Milwaukee, WI. This position would rarely have to travel in Wisconsin and will need a valid driver's license and eligibility to use a a state fleet vehicle.
