Job Description

Arizona State University is hiring a Director of Learning & Organizational Development to build and lead the design, development, and implementation of impactful, modern learning solutions across a range of functions throughout the University. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President and in partnership with key leadership across the University, this role will provide subject matter expertise and guidance on a range of topics including manager and leadership development, career pathing, change management, and organizational design/capability. The ideal candidate is a charismatic and people-first leader with the desire and ability to grow and support our workforce as we work together to make higher education available to all those who seek it.

Essential Duties

1. Organizational Design:
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive organizational design strategies to ensure alignment with business objectives and long-term goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess current organizational structures, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions.
- Utilize data-driven insights to optimize workflows, enhance communication channels, and foster a culture of innovation.

2. Leadership Development:
- Design and implement leadership development programs that cultivate a pipeline of high-performing leaders across all levels of the organization.
- Provide consultation and guidance to current and emerging leaders, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Evaluate and refine leadership competencies and ensure they align with industry best practices and the company's strategic vision.

3. Professional Development:
- Oversee the development and delivery of professional development initiatives to enhance employee skills, competencies, and career progression.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and implement training programs that address both current and future skill needs.
- Leverage technology, including Workday HCM, to streamline and enhance the delivery of professional development initiatives.

4. Change Management:
- Lead change management efforts associated with organizational design and development initiatives.
- Effectively communicate changes, manage resistance, and ensure a smooth transition to new structures and processes.

5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with HR, Talent Acquisition, and other key departments to ensure seamless integration of organizational design initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align organizational development strategies with overall business objectives.
- Build strong partnerships with external vendors, consultants, and industry experts to stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends.

6. Lead Department Operations:
- Manage department staff and resources to ensure strategic and operational goals and objectives can be achieved.
- Develop and support team performance by providing regular feedback and facilitating professional development through coaching and mentoring.
- Provide visionary leadership and inspiration to team members, setting clear goals and expectations while fostering a sense of purpose and enthusiasm.

7. Assess and Evaluate Department Effectiveness:
- Evaluate results from learning and development and university management metrics.
- Develop assessments and collect feedback to measure progress and evaluate efficiency of training.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field and eight (8) years experience leading complex leadership and organizational development projects/initiatives in a higher education setting OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

Advanced degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; strategic thinker with a passion for driving organizational excellence and have a proven track record in using Workday HCM technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate vision and strategy and execute a functional plan/roadmap. 
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex leadership/organizational development functions. 
  • Superior supervisory skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, integrity, and self-confidence. 
  • Strong influencing capability: able to skillfully influence peers, colleagues, and vendors to promote and sell ideas; ability to build broad-based relationships across the organization. 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a strong partnership across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Strong, fundamental skills in technology/platform supporting business operations and communications.
  • Awareness and understanding of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of adult learning and instructional design for program development
  • Proven experience in organizational design, leadership development, and professional development, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Workday HCM technology and its application in optimizing HR processes.
  • Strong data analytics skills to inform decision-making and measure the impact of organizational initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated success in driving change management efforts and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Working Environment

Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation. Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort/file paperwork, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.  Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.
