Job Summary:

The Director of Classical Studies position is a part-time (10% time) position that will be responsible for supporting the ICAA (Institute of Classical Architecture & Art) Certificate Program that is offered through the College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) in partnership with ICAA. This position will lead CAP in the direction, management, and strategic planning of this program. The position may also be engaged in teaching, scholarly/creative work, and service.
This position may be either a secondary Faculty Director administrative appointment to another CAP faculty appointment or a Clinical Track faculty member. Clinical track faculty members are working professionals outside of academia who perform teaching, research or service at the college on a part-time (less than 50% of full-time) basis, while demonstrating continued professional growth in their fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Revisit the curriculum and ensure it is aligned with & approved by the national ICAA Education Committee.
  • Work with the Certificate Advisor to obtain university approval for the certificate, so that it appears on students’ transcripts and for tracking purposes to provide greater support to students.
  • Identify, assign and oversee faculty to teach courses in the curriculum.
  • Assist the Dean and Development Director with fundraising for the certificate program and sponsored studio.
  • Make recommendations for allocation & direction of fundraising monies.
  • Develop a network of scholars and practitioners in classical architecture and urbanism for the college.
  • Maintain strong communications and relationships with the national ICAA and the Rocky Mountain ICAA.
  • Periodically organize and invite guest lecturers and/or organize exhibitions on the theme of classical architecture and urbanism.
  • Strategically facilitate certificate recruitment and scholarships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Candidates must have a terminal, accredited degree in architecture, planning, landscape architecture, urban design, and/or historic preservation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ICAA education programming. Must demonstrate an understanding of ICAA certificate requirements.
  • Demonstrated related professional experience and/or scholarship preferred.
  • Experience with developing programs in classical architecture, planning, landscape architecture, urban design, and/or historic preservation.
  • A successful record of leading and raising funds for non-profits, academic programs, or similar activities.
  • Connections with existing institutions related to Classical Architecture education.
  • Ability to promote a climate that is collegial, treats faculty, staff, and learners fairly and equitably, and furthers inclusion, creativity and innovation.
  • Record of award-winning design work in area of traditional architecture, planning, landscape architecture, urban design, and/or historic preservation.
  • Record of publishing articles or books on traditional architecture, planning, landscape architecture, urban design, and/or historic preservation.
  • Holds an ICAA Certificate.

    The salary for this position has been established at:

    $10,000 

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
