The Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies (CAHRS) is an ILR School Outreach Institute that is considered the world’s leading partnership between industry and academia, devoted to global human resource management. CAHRS provides connections and education amongst approximately 50 partner companies, ILR school faculty, and students to advance the world of work, especially in human resources.

Position is located in New York, NY, within the Cornell University ILR School located at 570 Lexington Ave, or can be based remotely.

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Director, Human Capital Development Programs - Extension Associate within the Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies (CAHRS) – Human Capital Development (HCD) in the Extension/Outreach Division of the School of Industrial and Labor Relations. The Extension Associate is responsible for extension programming and administration within one or more thematic areas. The Extension Associate is responsible for developing and delivering programs and services that are closely aligned with the strategic mission and core values of the ILR School, and for monitoring quality, impact, and outcomes of education, training, technical assistance, consulting, and research activities of the program. This position reports to the Executive Director, CAHRS.

What you will do:

The purpose of this position is to support ILR Human Capital Development (HCD) strategic imperatives by directing and managing a portfolio of ILR Senior Leader programs, mostly open enrollment programs with an occasional contract program.  The Director is responsible for leading all aspects of ILR HCD programs, including developing and marketing new product strategies, overseeing financial management, coordinating faculty effort, managing client relationships, ensuring client satisfaction, and overseeing operational staff.

In this role, the Director will lead programs that result in high-quality and successful educational programs, engage team members in high performing and engaging initiatives, and collect meaningful metrics that measure current programs and inform future program development initiatives. The Director will be a resource for thematic content development, maintain up to date knowledge on core topics within the HCD portfolio and analyze performance of educational programs with the objective of enhancing the HCD portfolio. The position is integral to achieving the academic, professional, revenue, quality and customer satisfaction standards and objectives associated with the ILR School and Cornell University.

Extension Associate is a full-time non-tenure track, academic term position, with an initial appointment through December 31, 2026. The position may be reappointed on the basis of available funding and work with recommendations by the appropriate Academic Director and Senior Associate Dean for Outreach and Sponsored Research.

What we need:

  • Master’s degree in related subject matter expertise (industrial and labor relations, employment or labor law, human resources/management/business, organizational behavior/change, economics, workforce development, vocational rehabilitation, occupational medicine/workplace safety and health, education, diversity/inclusion).
  • Minimum three years of experience in campus mediation.
  • Demonstrated ability to design participatory curriculum. 
  • Minimum of three years teaching related courses in college-level environment, conducting training to relevant target audience, and/or conducting research in the thematic content area.
  • Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the thematic content area (articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, training materials, etc.).

You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:

  • Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in large project management (e.g. several staff and budgets exceeding $500,000).
  • Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in promoting thematic area program teaching, consultation, and research services to regional, state, or national networks through the use of in-person and virtual mediums.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and mentoring, coaching, and supervising teaching personnel.
  • Professional credentials in disciplinary area, such as appropriate state and national licensure, certifications, etc.
  • Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and grant management.

Salary $69,500 to $93,500 commensurate with experience, qualifications and location.

Pay Range:

$44,800.00 - $85,800.00

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
