Summary:
The Director Employee Relations and Organizational Development is responsible for developing, executing, monitoring, and analyzing human resources activities within the scope of the employment life cycle to include:
  • Guide strategy for programs to attract, motivate, engage, and retain a highly competent and diverse workforce.
  • Oversee HR Partners who facilitate the initial hiring process, coordinate employee changes, and focus on managing employee relations and organizational development activities.
  • Develop and implement solutions to create and maintain a fair, respectful, diverse, and high performing work culture enabling employees to contribute their best.

This includes organizational development and benchmarking, and assessment of activities geared toward employee satisfaction and institutional productivity.
Essential Functions Include:
Direct employee relations for the University and ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations as it pertains to EEOC, ADA, FMLA, WC, and all applicable wage and hour, employment, and other laws affecting the workforce. Provide senior level advice, coaching, and consultation to employees, including senior management, on issues affecting performance, conduct, employee rights and responsibilities, overall job satisfaction and career development. Manage grievances, investigations, mediations and interventions, corrective and disciplinary action, terminations, etc. Direct exit interview process; partner on climate surveys, assess workplace culture and develop solutions. Manage employee recognition activities. Consult with AVP HR and promotes proactive approaches to solving complex employee relations, organizational and HR related issues while ensuring compliance with laws and in conjunction with upholding the mission and values of the institution. Foster and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and customer base. Administer the anonymous reporting system and serve as the University deputy Title IX Coordinator for faculty, staff, and administrators.
Work with leadership to benchmark organizational structures, direct reorganizations, assess learning needs, and development solutions. Develop programs to enhance leadership capacity and develop the university human capital to its potential. Develop solutions to address climate issues and educate the community to promote a fair, respectful, diverse, and high-performance work culture enabling employees to contribute their best. Implement programs for leadership assessment, career planning, and succession planning throughout the organization. Direct employee orientation and compliance training, and employee learning and development programs.
Manage staff and administrator policy development in consultation with the AVP HR. Ensure the staff and administrator policy manual, and procedures are current and conform to local, state, and federal employment legislation. Keep abreast of current and impending employment laws and regulations affecting the university and the workforce.
Generate reports on employee and organization development activities as requested by the AVPHR and provide recommendations to address employee and development issues. Assist in other areas and on projects as needed. Develop, control, and recommend budgets within areas of responsibility.
This position has the ability to work in a hybrid capacity.
Required Qualifications
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management including a minimum of five years in an employee relations and organizational development leadership role required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Must have strong knowledge of employee relations and professional development strategies along with general knowledge of recruitment, compensation, and benefits.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of employment laws and regulations impacting the workplace including, but not limited to, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and their application in the workplace.
  • Must have ability to defend actions taken in adverse proceedings such as grievances and mediation hearings.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and business management skills necessary.
  • Knowledge of employee investigation and disciplinary procedures required.
  • Ability to become certified as a Title IX Coordinator.
  • Ability to support the mission and values of a Catholic Jesuit education, as well as University goals for institutional diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or Employment Law.
