Reporting to the Director of the School of Medicine's (SOM) Office of Postdoctoral Education (OPE), oversees a career services operation that provides extensive workshops, grant writing training, courses, and career opportunities events.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Provides leadership and manages strategic planning of events, courses, and networks supporting the careers of Postdoctoral Fellows.
  • Creates, manages, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive program tailored to career development needs and job placement of Postdoctoral Fellows with a PhD or MD, who are also involved in mentored biomedical scientific research.
  • Designs, implements, and directs the Postdoctoral Career Development activities such as workshops, career symposiums, and job fairs for Postdoctoral Fellows in the SOM.
  • Creates a database of speakers for Postdoctoral Career Development events, schedules and recruits for such activities, and markets and evaluates the success of the same.
  • Collaborates with SOM IT personnel to create and maintain active advertisement and information regarding career events on the OPE website, and opportunities for grant funding.
  • Collaborate with all Schools, offices, Graduate Programs, and other internal and external stakeholders to create and expand career opportunities and development events for Postdoctoral Fellows.
  • Monitors compliance of Postdoctoral Fellows on completion of required career progress benchmarks including registration in the Postdoctoral database, Individual Development Program plans, annual progress reports, and exit interviews.
  • Establishes and maintains Postdoctoral Alumni database to establish job networking opportunities for Postdoctoral Fellows using the Emory Alumni Association database, social networking, and exit interviews.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A PhD in a bioscience-related area and experience in a prior position in scientific research and/or graduate training.
  • A demonstrated understanding of biomedical science research within a university or college setting and evidence of managing, instructing, or motivating early career scientists is also required.
  • Experience with establishing new models of educational programs preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written skills required.

 

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University locationRemote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
