What we want

The Diagnostic Laboratory Technician I, under general supervision, performs routine diagnostic assays in the area of veterinary microbiome, assists in customer service, monitors computers for lab equipment and compiling data. They may provide technical assistance in research projects in the area of small animal gastrointestinal function and disease.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ensure attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in DNA extraction, PCR, ELISA


Responsibilities:

  • Genetics/Microbiome lab Diagnostic Assays and Reports: Performs routine diagnostic test procedure and assays including fecal samples aliquoting, fecal DNA extraction, IFA and qPCR testing to evaluate gastrointestinal functionality in veterinary patients and assist the research projects. Performs data analysis. Performs precise equipment such as nanodrop, epMotion, qPCR machines, and Kingfisher flex instruments.

  • Report and Data Entry: Reports service qPCR and IFA results into the GILAB database with accuracy daily basis to assure timely entry and release of accurate results to meet laboratory turn-around time goals. Assists enter service data and QC results into a Microbiome service master spreadsheet daily basis.

  • Research Assistance: Assists processing the research and commercial projects samples including samples aliquoting, DNA extraction, samples organization and updating the spreadsheets.

  • Training: Assists training technical skills and equipment operation to Genetics student technicians.

  • Supplies: Maintains adequate supplies and reagents as needed efficient laboratory function which include preparing DNA extraction beads tube, preparing the reagents and buffer, and operating autoclave required for routine diagnostic testing. Performs other duties as assigned.
