About the Opportunity

In this entry-level role, the Designer will apply a broad set of skills within the realm of project delivery from planning, design, construction, and project completion. As a member of the In-hHuse Design & Construction group (IHDC), the Designer will contribute to all projects under the team’s portfolio. The In-House Design & Construction group works on projects for all of the University’s colleges, departments, and divisions across the Global Network, including student lounges, dorms, dining halls, classrooms, library spaces, and office fit-outs. All projects are assigned to a Designer/Project Manager (D/PM) and Designer/Assistant Project Manager (D/APM), with the Designer acting as an additional resource to those project teams as needed.

The Designer will collaborate with project teams on design and assist on activities such as creating architectural drawing sets, FF&E presentations and renderings, and documentation of existing conditions. The Designer will collaborate with Design Co-ops in the execution of those production needs, as well as create and maintain graphic standards to ensure quality control of deliverables. Other responsibilities include: CAD/BIM documentation of projects and existing site conditions; providing documentation and assistance in design development from schematic through construction documents phase; and assisting in specifying paint, flooring, lighting, and all associated finishes and furniture.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred software knowledge: AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural documents
  • Self-motivated problem solver with the ability to work independently on difficult and complex tasks while making sound decisions
  • Knowledge and skills required for this role are often acquired through a vachelor’s degree plus 0-2 years of professional experience in architecture, interior design, and related fields. Minimum of four (4) years experience in lieu of professional degree.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1) Production of drawing sets, including construction drawings, assessments, test fits, and sketches as needed. This would be completed through the use of BIM, CAD, or hand-sketching as needed.

2) Assist, and in certain situations, lead furniture and finish specification of projects in design. This includes identifying options, preparing options into a presentable medium, and documenting appropriately.

3) Maintenance and definition of CAD/BIM standards as they related to design processes for the In-House Design and Construction team.

4) Ongoing maintenance and management of finish library, both in physical and digital mediums.
