The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will support the work of the Equity Team within Berklee’s Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Equity team administers the Equity and Title IX Policy and Process, offers resources, support measures and accommodations, facilitates reporting options to address harassment, discrimination, or sexual misconduct, and educates the community on how to prevent and respond to these issues.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Deputy Title IX Coordinator will have primary responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating sexual and relationship violence prevention curricula, programs, and communication materials, and fulfilling other Title IX Coordinator duties, as needed. This position will also broadly support the Equity Team’s intake and support services and investigative processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sexual Misconduct Training and Prevention

  • Develop and deliver programming for students, faculty, and staff focused on topics such as consent, bystander intervention, healthy relationships, online dating safety, the Responsible Employee Policy, the Equity Policy and Process, and responding to disclosures.

  • Work with campus partners in the planning and coordination of Dating/Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month and other campus-wide programming.

  • Update existing and develop new print and electronic materials focused on sexual and relationship violence prevention, support resources, and the Equity and Title IX policies and processes. 

  • Assist with overseeing the distribution of online training courses, and managing student completion of training courses. 

  • Assist in developing and distributing climate surveys, analyzing results, and evaluating campus trends.

Investigations & Case Management

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Equity Office as required, which may include conducting intake, resource referrals, providing supportive measures, conducting internal screenings, and updating the case database.

  • Where appropriate, conduct informal resolution to disputes, and facilitate informal resolution and/or educational conversations with impacted parties.

  • Serve as an Equity and Title IX investigator as a back up to the Deputy of Investigations or external investigators during periods of high case volume, complex investigations or conflicts. Conduct fair, thorough, and impartial investigations of complaints.

  • In Title IX investigations, serve as the hearing officer by conducting a hearing with the parties and their advisors, determining the findings, and preparing the outcome letter.

  • Serve as the designee of the Title IX Coordinator and back up to the Assistant Vice President of Equity & Title IX during on-call periods and as needed.

  • Work with the Equity team in the review and revision of Equity’s policies and processes on an annual basis. 

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of data to contribute to annual statistical reports. 

  • Support the AVP and collaborate with campus partners, including Human Resources, Legal, Student Life, Counseling, Public Safety, and Survivor Advocacy Services, and others as appropriate, to ensure consistent application of policies and processes, coordinate and implement prevention and educational programming, and support appropriate actions in response to complaints.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in law or Master’s in student affairs, higher education, social work, counseling, criminal justice, public health, social work, human resources or related field preferred. Relevant certifications a plus. 

  • Knowledge, training, and 4-6 years’ experience related to Title IX, VAWA, Title VII, the Clery Act, employment law, sexual misconduct and/or intimate partner violence, employee relations, and other relevant civil rights statutes.

  • Familiarity with the Office for Civil Rights, MCAD, EEOC, or other similar state and federal agencies.

  • Working knowledge investigating, litigating, or otherwise resolving discrimination complaints (including Title IX complaints) in a college/university or governmental setting. Additional experience working in higher education preferred.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience working on sexual and relationship violence prevention and/or support initiatives, and interacting directly with individuals who have experienced or been accused of discrimination or harassment.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to effectively communicate both individually and in group settings.

  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and interact with culturally diverse individuals.

  • Must be able to work independently, and collaboratively across the organization.
