The Providence Campus - the university’s flagship campus – is comprised of two locations serving a diverse student body of 4,542 students. The Downcity Campus, located in the heart of Providence, is home to the College of Business, the College of Hospitality Management, the John Hazen White College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering & Design, and the College of Health & Wellness. A short distance south is the Harborside Campus, home to the College of Food Innovation & Technology. Other major facilities on this campus include the Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School, the Wildcat Center (home of the NCAA Division III JWU Wildcats), Harborside Village residence halls, and the university’s Culinary Arts Museum. Consistent with JWU’s longtime commitment to creating a greener, cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable campus environment, the university has revitalized close to 100 acres of waterfront alongside the Harborside Campus through significant brownfields remediation efforts.

The university also has a campus in Charlotte, North Carolina that opened in 2004 and currently enrolls more than 1,100 diverse students from 46 states and 13 countries. The nearly 15-acre, urban campus in Uptown Charlotte offers programs in food innovation, hospitality, business, arts and sciences, and health and wellness, as well as a combination of urban living and Southern charm.

Since 1971, JWU’s College of Hospitality Management (COHM) has established itself as a driving force in the ever-changing hospitality and tourism industries. Based in Providence, the Dean of the College of Hospitality Management (Dean) reports to the University Provost. Direct reports to the Dean include: Associate Dean, College of Hospitality Management; College Chair (Charlotte Campus); and three Department Chairs. The Dean is managerially responsible for approximately 40 faculty and staff and provides leadership and overall direction for the college, across all campuses and instructional modalities. Major responsibilities emphasize academic excellence, retention and graduation rates, external relationships that advance the goals of the college, excellence of programs through program accreditation, and the development and execution of a college strategic plan, inclusive of fundraising and philanthropic initiatives The Dean oversees administrative, operational and budgetary affairs, directs the academic programs, and fosters an environment of continuous improvement, innovation, and growth.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in higher education administration, hospitality, or other related experience.  The incumbent will possess excellent interpersonal abilities and communication skills, a congenial and collaborative management style, an understanding of and commitment to the needs of a diverse faculty and student body, along with a respect for shared governance. An earned Doctorate, or ability to complete a doctoral degree within the first four years of employment, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or other appropriate accreditation as determined by JWU is required. Compensation will be commensurate with experience including a competitive salary and a competitive benefits package.
