Position Summary

Position Summary

This position will primarily be responsible for data analytics, visualization, and reporting of institutional data and will work extensively with a wide range of data types and sources ranging from student-level academic data to program design and implementation attributes, survey data, and data sourced from state and federal repositories. In collaboration with the Director of Assessment and relevant college stakeholders, this position will access, aggregate, organize, clean, analyze, and report out findings in alignment with stakeholder questions, needs, and strategic goals.  This position also will ensure reported data are reliable, valid, and equitably represent the diversity of the populations being served by the college.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with college stakeholders and the MSU Academic Data Community to support a culture of assessment, resource sharing, and development of best practices for institutional data aggregation and reporting
  • Access and report on institutional data housed in the MSU Data Warehouse, web-based reporting, and historical documentation
  • Develop scalable and customizable data visualizations that meet college and departmental needs through Tableau, Power Bi, and similar programs
  • Create and implement surveys that meet stakeholder needs
  • Obtain and maintain training and certification on MSU data security, FERPA compliance, IRB/Human Subjects protections
  • Advocate for and ensure culturally-responsive and inclusive data collection and reporting practices

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or related field such as Business, Computer Science, Data Information or Social Science discipline; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in statistical methods or data management and analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in data analytics, statistical methods and computer programming
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze data with appropriate spreadsheet (e.g., Excel) and statistical software packages (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, STATA)
  • Knowledge of SQL querying in Oracle or Microsoft environments
  • Experience with Python or other coding languages to extract, manipulate, and report on data
  • Experience in working with institutional data in higher education
  • Familiarity with data visualization and dashboard development
  • Functional understanding of research methodologies that ensure reliable and valid reporting
